Spurs transfer news: Tottenham to battle Liverpool for Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez
Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sun) claims that Tottenham will battle Liverpool for the services of Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.
The 22-year-old has been great over the past two seasons but Celta have flirted with relegation this campaign and lie 17th in the league.
The report claims that both Liverpool and Spurs are eyeing the Uruguayan in the summer, and Tottenham see the 22-year-old as a replacement for Fernando Llorente.
The Spanish striker is out of a contract after this campaign and scored some important goals for us this season.
The report adds that West Ham tried to sign the striker in January, however, they are uninterested in the 22-year-old now. Gomez has scored 13 goals for the La Liga side this season, with five assists to his name.
Celta won’t let go of their star on the cheap
The La Liga side wanted £30m for their star but now want £44m, which is Gomez’s release clause, according to the report.
The 22-year-old has a contract with Celta until 2022 and the report claims that the La Liga side want to keep him for another year before letting him leave.
Spurs need a quality back-up for Kane next season given that the Englishman suffered two ankle injuries which kept him out for a while.

We were fortunate with Llorente scoring some goals and Son Heung-min was in excellent form during the Englishman’s absence.
