Latest Spurs news: Mauricio Pochettino escapes touchline ban ahead of Champions League final
Sky Sports reports that Mauricio Pochettino has avoided a touchline ban ahead of the Champions League final against Liverpool.
Spurs were punished for their part in the delayed kick-off against Ajax in the first leg semi-final, and the report adds that Pochettino’s one-match ban has been deferred for a probation period of a year.
Tottenham have also been fined €20,000 for the delay in the kick-off while they have been handed a €5,000 fine for a pitch invasion during the quarter-final against Manchester City, according to the report.
This was the second such incident by Tottenham this season and the report claims that the first delay in the kick-off leads to a warning.
The report adds that managers of the clubs are held responsible if a Champions League game does not start on time, irrespective of why the delay took place. This would have been a major blow to Pochettino and the club as we aim to win the Champions League for the first time.
Pochettino has already served a touchline ban this season after his altercation with Mike Dean in the Premier League.
Barcelona fined too
The report adds that Barcelona were also fined €20,000 as staff from the Nou Camp used excessive force on Tottenham supporters in the group stage game.
