Latest Spurs news: Serge Aurier doesn’t want to leave Tottenham

Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier wants to remain at the club despite playing just 17 times this season.

The Ivorian recorded just six starts in the Premier League and suffered many injuries in the campaign. Aurier’s last game was the 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in March, but the right-back isn’t looking to leave Spurs.

Speaking to Canal Football Club (h/t Football.london), the Ivorian added he was happy at Tottenham:

“In football things can happen very quickly.

“For the moment I do not desire to leave Tottenham. For the moment, I am very happy.”

Aurier looking to make it back to the starting XI

Keiran Trippier is the first-choice right-back at Spurs while Kyle Walker-Peters also played a few times for us this season.

Serge Aurier celebrates

Despite the competition for places in the first XI, Aurier highlighted that injuries played a huge part in his season and was expecting a great end to the campaign with the Champions League final:

“This season I have been interrupted by injury more than anything else, but life is like that.

“We have done a good season and we are in the Champions League final, we are going to enjoy that, see how it goes and next year, my season is not finished, I still have an Africa Cup of Nations too.”

Aurier’s career at Spurs is yet to take off since his move from Paris Saint-Germain. The Ivorian has had some great games but needs to remain fit for a period of time.

Trippier’s form has gone up and down since the World Cup and Spurs could do with a reliable right-back that knows how to defend.

The right-back is only 26 and could improve in the coming season. Playing in the AFCON could be the pre-season workout he needs ahead of the next campaign, and hopefully, he comes back without an injury.
