Spurs transfer news: Tottenham open talks with Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez
The Daily Star reports that Tottenham have held talks with one of Maxi Gomez’s representatives when he was in London.
The Uruguayan has been excellent for Celta Vigo over two seasons and has bagged 13 goals in all competitions this campaign.
The 22-year-old has a £43m release clause in his contract, and the report adds that the forward was close to joining West Ham in the winter window.
The report adds that Liverpool have backed out of the race to sign the forward, and Gomez wants to play for a Champions League side.
Tottenham are looking to sign a back-up for Harry Kane but they face competition from a couple of clubs (h/t Daily Star).
Gomez to play in the Copa America
The report claims that Borussia Dortmund are interested in the striker while Atletico Madrid’s links were played down recently.
The Uruguayan will play for the national side in the Copa America, and the report claims that Celta are hopeful of his value increasing should he perform well in the summer.
Tottenham have seen Fernando Llorente do well in the absence of Harry Kane this season, however, the Spaniard’s contract is up in the summer. Spurs need to find the right player as cover for Kane as the Englishman seems to be unlucky with injuries.
