Spurs transfer news: Anderton backs Ake to replace Alderweireld

Former Tottenham star Darren Anderton believes that Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake could replace Toby Alderweireld.

The Evening Standard claims that the 30-year-old Alderweireld could leave Spurs for £25million in the summer.

The report adds that Pochettino could be interested in revamping his side in the summer, and Anderton told SportingBet (h/t Evening Standard) that the 24-year-old Ake would be the ideal replacement for Alderweireld.

“Nathan Ake would be the perfect replacement for Alderweireld at Tottenham.

“With Alderweireld’s contract up in the summer [sic], all the signs point to him leaving the club which would be terrible for Spurs.”

Anderton worried about other stars leaving

The former Tottenham star further spoke about Jan Vertonghen. The Belgian is also in the final year of his deal and should he also leave, it would making things difficult for us to find a quality replacement.

Anderton added that Ake was a “class” player and is comfortable with the ball at his feet. However, he believes that the Dutch defender is happy at the Cherries whereas Tottenham is a “very attractive option.”

Ake is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and has come up leaps and bounds under Eddie Howe.

The youngster was on the books of Chelsea and it will be interesting to see if he is ready to take a big step in his career again.

Spurs are on the up and have a Champions League final to look forward too on 1 June.
