Latest Spurs news: Jan Vertonghen confident of facing Liverpool on June 1
Tottenham centre-back Jan Vertonghen is confident he will be fit to play in the Champions League final on 1st June.
The Belgian defender left the Amsterdam on crutches with a protective cast around his leg after our 3-2 win over Ajax.
The centre-back did not have a great time facing the Dutch side as he had to be subbed in the 1-0 defeat against them in the first leg.
Vertonghen did not feature in our final Premier League game of the season against Everton, but told VTM Nieuws that he would be ready for the final at the Wanda Metropolitano (h/t Evening Standard):
“I have fully trained with the squad last week. I feel good, super good.
“I have a history of ankle injuries, but I was only worried for half an hour – just after the Ajax game.”
The Belgian added that the scans did not show anything serious regarding the injury and the protective boot was off after just three days.
Injured players returning for Tottenham
Vertonghen isn’t the only player returning from injury, with Davinson Sanchez and Harry Kane pictured in training recently.
Kane’s return will be a huge boost to the team but the pairing of Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in the heart of the defence is the best option we have.
The Belgian pair has to be at its best to keep Liverpool from scoring in the final. The Reds defeated us twice in the Premier League this season, but the Champions League has seen us play at our best.
