Spurs transfer news: Tim Vickery believes Philippe Coutinho could make a shock move to Tottenham
South American football expert Tim Vickery believes that Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho could make a move to Tottenham. The Brazilian has struggled this season at the Nou Camp despite joining the Catalans from Liverpool 18 months back.
The Express claims that Coutinho wants a move out of the club, with his former club and Manchester United interested. However, Vickery believes Coutinho could head to Tottenham and play under his manager from Espanyol.
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Express), Vickery brought out the time when Mauricio Pochettino and Coutinho were making a name for themselves in the Spanish side:
“He did very well at Liverpool, but also remember that relationship with Mauricio Pochettino at Espanyol? Is there a little light flashing there?”
Vickery claimed that Coutinho wasn’t being played in the right position and Luis Suarez’s lack of pace has hurt Barca’s attack. The expert added that Coutinho’s relationship with the fans is over, and a move to the Premier League seems set:
“But how much of a loss are Barcelona willing to take to offload him. The most logical place for him to come would be the Premier League.”
Spurs could do with more attackers
Although Spurs could do with more attacking talent in the team, a move for Coutinho is a bit of a risk.
The Brazilian was good at Liverpool but they seem to have become better without him in the team. The former Inter Milan star also doesn’t track back a lot and he often goes missing in the big games.
Barcelona might want a huge amount for the 26-year-old, and the only reason we should try to sign him is if he is available on the cheap. Coutinho can still be a match winner on his days and working with Pochettino could see him get back to his best.
