Latest Spurs news: Tottenham land in Madrid ahead of Champions League final against Liverpool

The Tottenham players and coaching staff flew off to Madrid ahead of the biggest game of the season.

Spurs face Liverpool in the Champions League final on June 1 at the Wanda Metropolitano, and we have travelled with a 26-man squad for the game.

Tottenham need to be at their best against the Reds but the good news is that Harry Kane is back and seems set to feature in the final.

The Englishman hasn’t played since April but he is a risk worth taking against the Reds.

Christian Eriksen is another player who needs to be at his best as his passes can unlock the Liverpool defence.

The Dane is a threat from set-pieces too and is in fine form ahead of the final. The players who have carried us to the final are Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min.

The Brazilian scored an incredible second-half hat-trick against Ajax in the semi-final second leg to take us to the final.

Son, for his part, was deadly against Manchester City in the quarter-finals as he scored thrice in two games.

Midfield steel needed against the Reds

Liverpool have a tough midfield which isn’t very creative but does a lot of running and closing down.

Tottenham also have workhorses in the team, with Eric Dier and Harry Winks fit for the clash. But Moussa Sissoko could be the key to dominating the opposition midfield.

The Frenchman has been excellent this season and he could cap it off by winning the Champions League.

Our defence also has to keep things in check and Toby Alderweireld should be the main man for that job.

Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez have also travelled with the team for the final, and it will be interesting to see who pairs Alderweireld in the heart of the defence.

Tottenham might have lost the two Premier League games against Liverpool this season, but the Champions League final should be a different story on Saturday.

Why Tottenham need to be active in the winter transfer window even if they can’t sell players

Why Tottenham have to buy in January irrespective of possible exits

Tottenham have a big January window coming up. Spurs need to get their house in order after a tough start to the season, and we seem to be out of the race for the Premier League already.

We have only one point from our opening two Champions League games and are out of the Carabao Cup too.

The Times (h/t Sun) claims that Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose and Serge Aurier could be sold in January. Tottenham needed to get rid of these unwanted players in the summer but were unable to complete the deals.

Christian Eriksen

We did sign a few players, but only Tanguy Ndombele has been a regular. Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon have been blighted with injuries, with no starts between them.

Spurs have to spend in January

Eriksen, Dier and even Rose should get us some decent money in January, however, Tottenham cannot decide to act after getting rid of these players.

We need more fresh faces to fix things and there is a chance that the players could try to push for a summer move.

Eriksen is a free agent once the season ends and so are Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld. The trio can demand higher wages due to the lack of a transfer fee, which would be a blow to our finances.

We have to keep a check on our finances as the new stadium is now open, but Daniel Levy has to loosen the purse strings. Bruno Fernandes is being linked with a January move (h/t Sun), and we could do with some cover for the full-backs too.

We could also do with another centre-back joining the club after Vertonghen and Alderweireld’s struggles this season. There is a real fear of us missing out on the top four if things don’t click. Leicester City and West Ham look decent while Chelsea and Arsenal seem to be winning more than losing.

Having extra players would be a strain on the wage bill, and hopefully, we sell some of the deadwood in January.

Even if we can’t, Spurs have to spend in January to save a season that had so much potential.

“He has made the decision” – Journalist has some news regarding Pochettino’s future and it doesn’t sound good

Duncan Castles claims Mauricio Pochettino is targeting the Manchester United job

Duncan Castles claims that Mauricio Pochettino wants to leave Tottenham but will remain in the Premier League.

Spurs have had a tough start to the campaign under the Argentine and recently lost 7-2 to Bayern Munich.

Tottenham have also been unable to get rid of certain players who wanted to leave in the summer. Three first-team stars are free agents at the end of the season and can leave for nothing.

Castles was speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast and claimed that someone close to Pochettino gave him the information. The journalist added that the Argentine was interested in moving to Manchester United (h/t Sun):

“The information I have from someone close to Pochettino is he has very much targeted a new job.

“In his head, he has made the decision he will be moving on from Tottenham Hotspur.

“And the club I’m the told he is targeting at his next job is Manchester United.”

United would be a terrible move for Pochettino

The club might be struggling at the moment, but Pochettino can get us out of this situation. This is more or less the same team that finished second in the Premier League in 2017 and reached the Champions League final too.

The Argentine does have to get things in shape but running away to United isn’t the right move either.

The Red Devils are in an even worse condition than we are and Pochettino would have to start the rebuilding cycle again at Old Trafford. United lie two points above the relegation zone and their players aren’t doing the business.

Poch is one of the best in the world and we need him to stick around. Hopefully, we get the season back on track soon and the Argentine stays at Tottenham.

Tottenham an option for Gareth Bale in the January transfer window

Gareth Bale has been in decent form for Real Madrid this season. The 30-year-old has won several trophies with the La Liga giants but has never really had a great relationship with the supporters.

Calciomercato adds that the Welsh attacker has been unhappy with the appointment of Zinedine Zidane, and the French manager is in his second stint at the club.

Bale has scored two goals and has a couple of assists for Real this season, however, the 30-year-old will leave the club in January (h/t Calciomercato).

The report adds that Bale has the option to return to England with Tottenham as a destination, while Manchester United are also linked with the player. The Welsh attacker was close to moving to China in the summer and could still see that happen in January (h/t Calciomercato).

Spurs need to make signings soon

Tottenham need to sign players and it will be interesting to see our plan of action in January. Bale could be a decent option for us, but his wages are on the higher side and he is ageing.

The Wales international can play in several positions and could bolster our attack. However, Spurs could do with someone who provides longevity to the team.

Our recent signings have been players with potential and hopefully, we get the right stars soon.

Crystal Palace keen on loan move for Kyle Walker-Peters

Kyle Walker-Peters seems set for a loan move in the January window, according to the Sun. The 22-year-old has featured in four games for Tottenham this season but hasn’t played for us since the Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Colchester United.

Walker-Peters started the season as our first-choice right-back but Spurs have tried Davinson Sanchez, Moussa Sissoko and Serge Aurier in that position too.

Kyle Walker-Peters (L)

The report claims that Crystal Palace are keen on the 22-year-old Englishman, and it will be interesting to see if we let him leave.

A questionable call from Tottenham?

Tottenham are already light on recognised right-backs after failing to replace Kieran Trippier. The Englishman has done a great job at Atletico Madrid and has been recalled by Gareth Southgate for the national side.

Letting Walker-Peters go would leave Aurier as the only natural right-back at the club while Juan Foyth can also play in that position.

Serge Aurier

However, Aurier has been inconsistent since his arrival at Tottenham and the Ivorian has his injury problems too. Palace could offer Walker-Peters regular games but we shouldn’t let him leave unless a replacement is in store.

Tottenham’s defence has been a cause for concern this season and we have shipped 10 goals in our last two games.
