Spurs transfer news: Tottenham contacted Antonio Conte before he joined Inter Milan

Fabrizio Romano (h/t Calciomercato) reports that Tottenham approached former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte as a possible replacement for Mauricio Pochettino.

The report claims that the Premier League club contacted the Italian when Daniel Levy learned that the Spurs manager could end up at either Manchester United or Real Madrid.

The former Juventus manager was also handed a lucrative €10m per season deal, according to the report, and Tottenham’s decision was partly due to Conte’s performance with Chelsea.

The Italian won the Premier League with the Blues in 2016-17 and also lifted the FA Cup the following season but was sacked by the side.

A new beginning for Conte in Italy

Conte is the new Inter Milan manager while Pochettino had to deal with heartbreak in the Champions League final. The report adds that Conte knew about Tottenham’s lack of spending and decided to join the Serie A giants.

Spurs were defeated 2-0 by Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano and the team needs to shake this off as we head into the new season.

Pochettino is possibly the best man for the Tottenham job and it is difficult to think of someone who could do a better job in similar conditions.

Spurs did not spend in the last two transfer windows, yet, we finished in the top four and reached the finals of the Champions League.
