Latest Spurs news: Hugo Lloris backs Mauricio Pochettino over summer transfer decisions

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has backed Mauricio Pochettino to take key decisions regarding the possible squad overhaul at Spurs.

Pochettino led a side that made no signings in two transfer windows to the Champions League final and we finished in the top four too.

However, our dream of lifting the Champions League for the first time could not come true as Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners.

The Reds had invested heavily in the summer and signed four players, two of whom started for them on Saturday, while they paid a massive fee to land Virgil van Dijk 18 months ago.

Lloris was asked if the squad needed an overhaul but left that decision to Pochettino (h/t Mirror):

“That decision belongs to the gaffer and the board. I am just a player. The only thing I can say is that getting to the Champions League final was a very big and emotional thing.

“It is difficult for us to end the season in this way because you never know when you will get the opportunity to win this type of competition again.”

Cannot make comparisons with Liverpool

Spurs have a great first-team but we looked extremely off-radar in the final for some reason.

Both sides did not play to their potential but Liverpool took their chances while Alisson, one of Liverpool’s summer signings, was in great form.

Lloris highlighted the difference between the two clubs, claiming we are not in a position to challenge for all the trophies:

“It is difficult to compare both projects.

“There is one club who sets out to win every competition in which they play… and that is not the case with Tottenham.”

The World Cup winner added that the onus is on improving each season and the team would look to come back stronger after the defeat in Madrid.
