Spurs transfer news: Manchester United interested in Eric Dier replacing Nemanja Matic

The Times (h/t Daily Mail) reports that Manchester United are looking at an upgrade for Nemanja Matic with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting to sign English talent.

The report claims that the Red Devils are looking at Eric Dier’s situation at Tottenham while they are also interested in Declan Rice of West Ham.

Dier didn’t have a great season for Spurs as he struggled with injuries and form. The 25-year-old only played 27 games for us last season as Mauricio Pochettino preferred a midfield pairing of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko.

United feel that Tottenham would be more open to a deal than West Ham, according to the report.

Matic has over 200 Premier League appearances for Manchester United and Chelsea combined but struggled for form last season, like most of the Red Devil stars.

A summer of rebuilding for Spurs?

Dier often struggled to perform for Spurs last season but injuries also played a role in that.

The 25-year-old hasn’t kicked on from an impressive start in the Spurs jersey and it will be interesting to see if we let him leave.

Tottenham have to add quality to a team that was stretched to its limit last season with injuries.

Pochettino also has had his hands tied due to limited spending, and we could do with more players joining the club.
