Spurs transfer news: AS Roma leading race for Tottenham target Joachim Andersen

Corriere dello Sport (h/t Calciomercato) reports that AS Roma are leading the race for Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen.

The report claims that Andersen could be the next big defender after Milan Skriniar left Samp to join Inter Milan.

Andersen is a target for Tottenham, and the report adds that the 23-year-old Danish centre-back has also interested Arsenal and AC Milan.

The centre-back has been linked with Spurs for several months, and earlier in the year, reports (h/t Sun) suggested that we were in talks with Sampdoria over a move for Andersen.

CorSport (h/t Calciomercato), however, claims that Roma have an ace up their sleeve in the pursuit of the defender.

Milan striker Gregoire Defrel could be used in the deal to land Andersen, and the French striker spent last season on loan at Sampdoria (h/t Calciomercato).

Furthermore, Andersen is seen as a replacement for Kostas Manolas, who could leave Roma to join Napoli (h/t Calciomercato).

Tottenham need to sign a quality centre-back

Andersen would be a decent option to have on the bench as cover for Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgians are two of the best in the world, but we struggled in a few games last season when Vertonghen was out with an injury. Davinson Sanchez did a good job, but the Colombian also had his fair share of injury problems.

Juan Foyth was inconsistent and was even tried out as a right-back in some games, and needs to develop more before he can be considered as a regular starter.
