Spurs transfer news: Napoli have held talks with Tottenham over Kieran Trippier
Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier is in the middle of a battle between Serie A giants Napoli and Juventus, according to the Mirror.
The 28-year-old was excellent for England in the World Cup, however, his form has dipped dramatically in the past season.
Trippier remained as Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice due to Serge Aurier’s injuries, but the report claims Maurizio Sarri wants to make the right-back his first signing as Juve manager.
The report claims that Trippier would replace Joao Cancelo, who is a target for Manchester City.
However, Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti has opened negotiations with Spurs to sign the 28-year-old right-back (h/t Mirror),
Trippier also made several crucial mistakes in the previous season, and getting an upgrade at right-back would be great.
Aurier hasn’t been great since his move PSG while Kyle Walker-Peters still needs time to develop. We cannot go into the new campaign relying on just Aurier and Walker-Peters, and hopefully, we land a quality right-back to shore up the defence.
Spurs need to get an attack-minded right-back and have been linked with Max Aarons and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in recent months (h/t Sun).
Spurs set to complete deal for Championship star
The report adds that Tottenham are confident of signing Leeds United’s Jack Clarke after a great season for the Championship club.
