Spurs transfer news: Tottenham interested in St. Etienne star William Saliba

L’Equipe (h/t Football.london) reports that Tottenham have entered the race to sign Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba.

The 18-year-old centre-back was impressive for the Ligue 1 side last season and started 16 games for them.

The Ligue 1 side are demanding €30m for the rising star, and also want him back on loan for the upcoming season.

The report claims that Arsenal have already agreed on terms with the young defender, but Tottenham are confident they can get hold of the 18-year-old ahead of the Gunners.

Saliba can also slot into the right-back position, and it will be interesting to see how things develop with the Frenchman’s future in the summer. The youngster would provide cover for the centre-back spots if he doesn’t return to France on a loan deal.

Spurs haven’t made any moves in the transfer window since signing Lucas Moura from PSG, and that has to change soon.

The gulf in class between Liverpool and Spurs wasn’t great in the Champions League final, but we were not on the same level as the Reds over a 38-game campaign.

Injuries certainly affected us last season, and we need to strengthen the team for the upcoming season.

The 18-year-old defender could be a great signing for the future, but Spurs are also interested in Jack Clarke.
