Spurs transfer news; AS Roma interested in Toby Alderweireld

Italian giants AS Roma are considering a move for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, according to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Football.london).

The 30-year-old Belgian has just one year left on his current deal and is available for £25m (h/t Football.london) in the summer, which would be a bargain considering Alderweireld’s ability.

The report claims that Roma are set to lose Kostas Manolas, and the Serie A giants are targeting Marc Bartra of Real Betis.

However, Alderweireld is an option for Spurs and Roma are trying to convince the Belgian to join them.

The report claims that Roma face some problems in signing Alderweireld as they do not have Champions League football next season.

This also affects how much they could pay the Belgian in wages, according to the report, but Alderweireld had suggested that he could remain at Tottenham.

Spurs need to keep hold of Alderweireld

The Belgian is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and replacing him would be tough for Spurs.

The 30-year-old spoke to Sport360, and claimed he would remain at the club prior to our Champions League final against Liverpool (h/t Daily Mail):

“The only focus is Spurs, because of this focus I think I had a good season as well. I have one year left on my contract, so in my head, I will play for Spurs next season.”
