Spurs transfer news: Ben Godfrey signs new four-year deal with Norwich City

Norwich defender Ben Godfrey has signed a new four-year deal with the Premier League club, despite interest from Tottenham (h/t Daily Mail).

Godfrey was excellent for the Canaries last season as he helped them win the Championship. The 21-year-old English centre-back played 36 games in all competitions.

The report adds that Manchester United were also interested in the centre-back, who can also play as a left-back or a defensive midfielder.

It is the player’s versatility that caught Tottenham’s eye, according to the report, as Mauricio Pochettino believed Godfrey could provide some depth to our midfield.

Spurs were a little thin in that position last season and we also sold Mousa Dembele in the winter window.

The 21-year-old seems set to help Norwich to remain in the Premier League next season, and it will be interesting to see how he performs to the rigours of the top division.

Tottenham are looking to wrap up other deals soon

Tottenham are close to landing Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon (h/t Sky Sports) and Leeds United’s Jack Clarke too (h/t Sun).

The pair have been tracked by Spurs for a while, and they could become our first signings since Lucas Moura more than 18 months ago.

Ndombele would be a great addition to our midfield while Clarke is a player for the future.
