Spurs transfer news: Manchester City set to land Nathan Ake ahead of Tottenham
Tottenham are set to lose the race for Nathan Ake, according to L’Equipe (h/t Sun).
The Sun had reported earlier that Spurs were the favourites to land the Dutch defender, however, French outlet L’Equipe (h/t Sun) claims that Manchester City
Ake joined Bournemouth from Chelsea in 2017 and has been impressive under Eddie Howe. The Blues wanted to re-sign the defender, but their transfer ban means they cannot rival others for the 24-year-old (h/t Sun).
The report claims that City could land the centre-back for £40million, and Ake would also increase the homegrown quota at the Etihad, thanks to his time in the Chelsea academy.
Ake was seen as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld, with Mauricio Pochettino planning for the season without the Belgian.
Alderweireld has just one year left on his current deal, and it will be interesting to see what we have planned in the summer for our defence.
Tottenham making moves in the summer window
Spurs have already signed two players in the summer window, with Jack Clarke being loaned back to Leeds United.
Tanguy Ndombele has also been signed from Lyon for a club-record fee (h/t BBC).
Spurs need to land a defender should Alderweireld leave, and Ake would be a great replacement for the Belgian.
