Spurs transfer news: Manchester United back out of race to sign Toby Alderweireld
The Manchester Evening News claims that Manchester United are not looking to sign Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian defender is available for £25m, but the report claims that United aren’t looking to trigger this release clause.
The 30-year-old is out of a contract at the end of the season, and the report claims that the Belgian was tracked by Jose Mourinho.
However, Mourinho’s sacking saw the end of United’s interest, and they are looking at young and preferably British players (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The report adds that Alderweireld could have solved their problems in the short-term but Maguire fits the new strategy better than the Belgian.
Alderweireld is one of the best in the Premier League, and not losing him to a direct rival is a huge boost.
The 30-year-old was one of the stars who did not suffer a serious injury in the previous campaign, and it will be interesting to see how things develop in the coming weeks.
Spurs make big moves in the summer
The Alderweireld saga could drag on till the end of the transfer window, but Spurs have made a couple of moves already.

Tanguy Ndombele is the big signing we have made in the window, and the French midfielder could be a game-changer for Spurs with his quality in the middle of the park.
