Spurs transfer news: Tottenham want to sign Real Madrid’s Mariano Diaz
OK Diario (h/t Daily Star) reports that Mauricio Pochettino is interested in signing Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz.
The Spanish striker is in his second spell at the La Liga giants and rejoined them from Lyon.
The 25-year-old struggled for first-team starts last season, and only played 13 La Liga games in the campaign.
Diaz scored three goals last season, and the report claims that the forward has emerged as an option for Tottenham.
Pochettino is keen on finding cover for Harry Kane, according to the report. The English striker is one of the best in the world, but he has had his injury problems in the past two campaigns.
Fernando Llorente did a decent job as cover for Kane and scored some important goals for us last season. However, the former Juventus striker is out of a contract in the summer.
Spurs need some competition for Kane
The England captain is great when fit, but he missed chunks of last season with ankle problems.
Tottenham have already signed Jack Clarke and Tanguy Ndombele in the summer window, and it will be interesting to see who else we target.
Diaz would not receive too many starts under Pochettino because of Kane’s return to fitness but it is difficult to see him as competition for the Englishman too.
