Spurs transfer news: Tottenham willing to sell Toby Alderweireld to fund Nicolo Zaniolo move
The Daily Mail reports that AS Roma are interested in signing Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, and Spurs hope this can help them land Nicolo Zaniolo.
The report adds that manager Mauricio Pochettino is open to selling the Belgian defender, who has just one year left on his deal.
Alderweireld can leave on the cheap due to a £25million release clause in his contract, which expires on 25th July (h/t Daily Mail).
Roma
Alderweireld, for his part, is open to letting his contract run out and leave for free at the end of next season (h/t Daily Mail).
The 30-year-old was one of the stars for Tottenham last season as we reached the Champions League final. Zaniolo has been one of the brightest stars in the Serie A, and the 20-year-old Italy international is valued at £40m (h/t Daily Mail).
Spurs want to increase funds for summer moves
The report claims that Tottenham want to increase funds for other moves, after signing Tanguy Ndombele.
Zaniolo has been one of Pochettino’s targets for several weeks, and the report claims Roma could be tempted into selling the Italian if they receive bids above £40m.
Christian Eriksen is another player that Spurs are open to selling, however, interest from Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain has been hit by Daniel Levy’s £100m price on the Dane (h/t Daily Mail).
Zaniolo would make a quality signing and his versatility can be used well by Pochettino. However, selling Alderweireld would mean we need another centre-back for the upcoming campaign.

The Belgian is still a quality player and it will be interesting to see if he is sold in this window.
