Spurs transfer news: Pascal Chimbonda defends Tottenham’s decision not to move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Former Tottenham defender Pascal Chimbonda has defended the club’s decision not to rival Manchester United for Aaron Wan-Bissaka (h/t Evening Standard).
The English youngster joined Manchester United from Crystal Palace in a deal worth
The former right-back claimed that Spurs need to strengthen other positions, and signing Wan-Bissaka would have taken a huge chunk out of our transfer budget.
Speaking to SportingBet, Chimbonda added that Wan-Bissaka is far from the finished article (h/t Evening Standard):
“Tottenham made the right choice to not try and sign Wan-Bissaka.
“He had a very good season for Palace, but he’s still very far off from becoming a proven player. Tottenham need to strengthen other parts of the pitch more urgently and Wan-Bissaka would have taken a massive wedge out of the transfer budget.”
Chimbonda believes that Kieran Trippier would not be sold in the summer, and backed the Englishman to perform well after getting some rest during the off-season (h/t Evening Standard).
Trippier struggled last season while Serge Aurier had his own injury problems in the previous campaign.
Tottenham are spending on the right positions
Chimbonda is right in suggesting that Wan-Bissaka would have taken a lot of money to sign. However, Tottenham have spent big to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.
The Frenchman is one of the best in Ligue 1 and should add more quality to the midfield.

Spurs sold Mousa Dembele in the winter window, and Ndombele is a fantastic replacement for the Belgian.
