Spurs transfer news: Arsenal interested in Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld
The Daily Star reports that Arsenal are interested in Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian is available for £25m in the summer window due to a release clause in his contract (h/t Daily Star).
Ian McGarry spoke on the Transfer Window podcast recently, and claimed that Alderweireld doesn’t want to uproot his family from London:
“The problem they (Arsenal) are going to have with this is they are offering not to pay up front, but over the course of one year, the €28m (£25m) clause.
“Alderweireld is very tempted to look at a career where he doesn’t need to uproot his family, his life, because obviously these training grounds are quite close to each other, and therefore moving to the Emirates would in one way be quite an ‘easy’ thing to do.”
The expert added that the Gunners have a problem regarding their transfer budget, which is only £45m (h/t Daily Star).
Alderweireld would be better off staying at Spurs
The Belgian can leave for free next season should he not sign a new deal with the club.
The 30-year-old is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, however, ending up at Arsenal would not be a great decision for the Belgian.
The Gunners don’t have Champions League football next season, while we have already made one big signing in Tanguy Ndombele.

The Frenchman should make our team stronger next season as we challenge for silverware under Mauricio Pochettino.
