Latest Spurs news: Tanguy Ndombele explains how he was persuaded to join Tottenham
Tanguy Ndombele has to be one of the biggest transfers of the season, and the 22-year-old is already one of the best in Ligue 1.
The former Lyon star signed for Spurs recently and is Tottenham’s second signing of the season after Jack Clarke joined from Leeds.
The Leeds youngster went back to the Championship side on loan, but all eyes will be on Ndombele and how he adapts to the Premier League.
The Frenchman was asked what made Tottenham an attractive project, despite interest from Manchester United, Liverpool, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain (h/t Evening Standard).
The 22-year-old was excited at the prospect of playing in the Premier League, but told L’Equipe that the Spurs project was also intriguing (h/t Evening Standard):
“They have quite a young team, with very good players. When a club was a Champions League finalist this season, you have to look at their project.
“To put €70m [the total potential value of his deal] on the table for me, it was a strong signal.”
The Frenchman added that he sees Tottenham as a big European club, and Spurs would help him reach another level.
Pochettino plays a role in landing Ndombele
The midfielder also spoke about Mauricio Pochettino’s role in bringing him to London.
The former Lyon star claimed that the Argentine leaves an impression and added that Pochettino wanted Ndombele to join (h/t Evening Standard):
“It is difficult to describe but he knows how to touch people, to leave a mark on people. He looked at me in the eyes and said: ‘Come with me, I am sure that you will progress.’
“It is these types of little things that made me want to sign over there. I could see that he really, genuinely wanted me, that he genuinely liked me.”
