Spurs transfer news: Atletico Madrid increasing efforts to sign Kieran Trippier
The Sun reports that Atletico Madrid are increasing their efforts to sign Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier.
The report claims that the Spanish giants are also interested in Thomas Meunier slotting in as their right-back for next season, as they look to replace Juanfran.
Italian champions Juventus are also keen on Trippier (h/t Sun), with Joao Cancelo being linked with moves to Manchester City and Bayern Munich (h/t Sun).
The 28-year-old Trippier wasn’t at his best last season despite a great World Cup with England. Trippier made several errors on the pitch for Spurs but remained as the first choice.
Serge Aurier had several injury problems last season while Kyle Walker-Peters didn’t get too many starts under Mauricio Pochettino.
The Sun adds that Pochettino will allow Trippier to leave in the summer and the Englishman is seen as a £25million replacement for Atletico’s Juanfran.
Tottenham need a replacement for Trippier
Selling Trippier would severely limit our options for the right-back position unless Juan Foyth is shifted there regularly.
The Argentine got a few games in that position last season but Spurs should try to get a decent right-back into the team should Trippier leave.
Aurier does not have the greatest fitness record during his time at Tottenham while Walker-Peters still needs more first-team minutes to develop.
