Spurs transfer news: Atletico Madrid in pole position to sign Kieran Trippier
The Mirror reports that Atletico Madrid are pushing hard to sign Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier.
The Spanish giants have been in the news after selling Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona for £107m (h/t Mirror) and they are in need of a new right-back after Juanfran’s exit in the summer.
The report claims that Manchester United were interested in Trippier but ended up signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka. This has put Atletico in pole position to land the Englishman (h/t Mirror) and they do have money to spend, thanks to Griezmann’s sale.
The report adds that Atletico are looking to complete a £25million deal for the Englishman, and Mauricio Pochettino is willing to sell the right-back.
Trippier struggled for form last season despite starring in England’s World Cup campaign.
The right-back remained as our No.1 in the position due to Serge Aurier’s injuries, but we did see Kyle Walker-Peters play some games last season.
The youngster didn’t have too many games to impress, and he needs to play regularly in order to improve further.
A big decision awaits Spurs
Selling Trippier should only be considered if we have a decent replacement lined up for him. Spurs cannot count on Aurier next campaign due to his history with injuries.

Juan Foyth played as the right-back in a few games too, but the Argentine does not have the same attacking threat as his competitors in that position.
