Spurs transfer news: Real Betis manager open to losing Lo Celso but wants to keep star

Real Betis manager Rubi has spoken on the future of his players, including Argentine sensation Giovani Lo Celso.

The 23-year-old had a great debut season with the La Liga club and went on to play for Argentina in the Copa America.

The attacking midfielder has been linked with Tottenham (h/t Football.london), and Mundo Deportivo (h/t Football.london) reports that Spurs had bid €40m for the Argentine.

However, this was short of Betis’ asking price of €100m, according to the report, and talks of Lo Celso joining Spurs are back on with Nabil Fekir possibly joining the Spanish side.

Rubi was speaking to El Desmarque (h/t Football.london) and claimed that Betis might have to sell before they buy new players:

“We all want new faces soon but in the end we also look for the economic benefit and it is not easy.”

The manager was then asked about players leaving the club and replied:

“I know who does or does not have that intention. We are talking about a case in which the idea is very clear to leave. The rest is staying.”

Rubi was then asked about Lo Celso possibly leaving the club before the end of the transfer window, and the manager didn’t confirm that the Argentine would be staying:

“It could be, as a coach, I am delighted that he can join and help him do what he did last year and enjoy football.”

Tottenham need to spend big to sign Lo Celso

The report claims that Betis are willing to sell Lo Celso for lower than the €100m release clause, but Spurs would have to break their transfer record to sign the Argentine.

Football.london adds that Tottenham do not intend to spend high on Lo Celso, and they could turn their attention to Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos.
