Spurs transfer news: Vertonghen wants to stay at Tottenham next season
Tottenham have been handed a boost ahead of the new season with Jan Vertonghen claiming that he wants to stay at the club.
The former Ajax star has just 12 months left on his current deal, and the Evening Standard reports that there is uncertainty regarding the futures of Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld.
The two players also have just 12 months remaining on their respective deals, but Vertonghen is happy at Tottenham and added that it is the best club to play for (h/t Evening Standard):
“I’ve got a year left, I will have to see what happens.
“I love being here. I feel great with the manager, he’s been supporting me and making me a better player. I’ve got everything I want. It’s the best club to play for at the moment.”
The Belgian is currently with the team in Singapore as a part of their Asia tour where they face Juventus.
The next game is against Manchester United in Shanghai, scheduled for next Thursday.
Tottenham need to sort out the futures of the other players
Vertonghen wanting to stay at the club is great news ahead of the campaign, but there has to be clarity on the futures of Eriksen and Alderweireld.
Losing them now would be a blow but we would be guaranteed a decent amount for two of the best in the Premier League.
The worst outcome would be keeping them on their current deals and losing them for nothing at the end of the next season.
