Spurs transfer news: Alderweireld claims he is not looking to leave Tottenham in summer
Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has one year left on his contract and can leave Spurs for £25million in the summer (h/t Evening Standard).
However, the Belgian is not looking for a move away from the club in the summer and is concentrating on the season ahead.
The 30-year-old is one of the best in the Premier League and formed a great partnership with Jan Vertonghen at the back.
Alderweireld was speaking after our 3-2 win over Juventus and is focused on the season ahead (h/t Evening Standard):
“I’ve always said, I’m focused on Spurs and trying to deliver the job that I need to do.”
The Belgian was then asked if he would remain a Spurs player at the start of the season, the 30-year-old replied in the affirmative:
“Yes, that’s my focus.
“In football, everything can go quick but my focus is on Spurs and to be ready for the start of the season.”
Alderweireld added that Mauricio Pochettino knows about the Belgian’s commitment to the team, and the defender was handed the captain’s armband in the friendly against Juventus.
Tottenham handed a boost for this season
Keeping hold of the 30-year-old is a bit of a boost for Spurs as we might not have to search for a quality replacement now.
However, the Belgian will be a free agent at the end of the campaign and could join any club he wishes.

Spurs would lose out on a decent sum if Alderweireld leaves on a free, however, we could still get him to sign a new deal with the club.
