Spurs transfer news: Alderweireld eyeing big fee after contract expiry with Tottenham
The Daily Mail reports that Toby Alderweireld is eyeing a lucrative free transfer once his contract with Tottenham ends.
The Belgian could have left Spurs for £25million in the summer due to a release clause in his contract, but this stipulation expired recently (h/t Daily Mail).
The report claims that there was interest in Alderweireld from AS Roma, but there weren’t many offers on the table.
The Belgian has rejected several offers from Tottenham to extend his stay, with the club offering him close to £150,000-per-week (h/t Daily Mail).
Spurs willing to talk with Alderweireld
The 30-year-old is one of the best in the Premier League and the report claims that Spurs are happy to restart talks over an extension, however, this would not be as lucrative as a signing-on fee when he becomes a free agent.
The Daily Mail adds that Spurs are unwilling to hand Alderweireld a long-term deal as he is in his 30s.
The report adds that Tottenham could still sell the Belgian before the end of the summer window, but they could want more than £25m.
Keeping Toby for one more season is a bit of a boost for Spurs, but losing him for free would see us miss out on a sizeable transfer sum.

We could sell him to a foreign club for a small amount in the winter window as we did with Mousa Dembele last season.
