Latest Spurs news: Pochettino did not leave home for 10 days after final loss to Liverpool

Mauricio Pochettino did not take the Champions League final loss well.

The Argentine led Tottenham to the final in Madrid and we had chances to score against the Reds.

However, we could not get past Alisson, as goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi ensured the Reds picked up their sixth Champions League crown.

Pochettino spoke recently and claimed he had a bad summer, similar to the 2002 World Cup and his national team’s elimination (h/t Sun):

“For me the only one I can compare it with is the summer of 2002 when I played for Argentina at the World Cup and we finished below Sweden and England in our group.”

The manager added that the time before the final was great but recovering from the loss to Liverpool was not easy:

“The three weeks to prepare were unbelievable then we were massively disappointed in the way we lost.

“Then I needed to go home. I took a train from Madrid to Barcelona the day after. I spent ten days in my home and didn’t want to go out.”

Pochettino looking towards new season

Spurs have made one big-name signing in Tanguy Ndombele, and the manager added that a new season provides motivation to the team.

The Argentine added that playing well with a young team is important, and he hopes to pick up a trophy at the end of this season.

“That is the most important. That culture, that philosophy we create. We are very close. Maybe in the end we can get a trophy.”

Spurs were close last season and it will be interesting to see how the team deals with the Champions League defeat.
