Latest Spurs news: Walker-Peters opens up about that night in Barcelona and Dembele’s goal
Kyle Walker-Peters has claimed that Harry Kane and Danny Rose urged him to get up and play in a crucial Champions League game.
The English right-back was left on the floor as Ousmane Dembele scored for Barcelona at the Nou Camp last season.
Tottenham could not afford to lose that game as they were in danger of elimination in the group stages, however, Spurs drew that game and reached the final of the competition.
Walker-Peters told the Sun about facing one of the best attackers in the world and how a couple of his teammates pushed him on:
“I don’t know if you’ve seen it but as soon as he scores, I lie on the floor. I just wanted the ground to open and swallow me up.
“It was the worst feeling but even though the noise was amazing, the first voice I heard was Danny Rose’s. He told me, ‘Don’t worry, stay calm’.
“The thing is, before that I had been playing well. I remember going back to my position for the restart and Harry Kane telling me, ‘Don’t worry, you’re playing well, you’ve got this.’”
Walker-Peters added that he won the next ball that came towards him and that got his confidence back.
The English right-back claimed that this game helped him learn more, and he pushed on and improved in the rest of the campaign.
Tottenham could start season with Walker-Peters as the first-choice
The upcoming season will be important for Walker-Peters’ future at the club.
Kieran Trippier has been sold while Serge Aurier recently underwent surgery. He is slowly being brought back into training.
Juan Foyth picked up an injury in the Audi Cup win, and we could see the English defender start as the first-choice right-back.

The 22-year-old also started last season as the first-choice but Trippier took over that spot after he got back to fitness post the World Cup.
