Spurs transfer news: Alderweireld agrees €3.5m wage with Roma

Il Messaggero (h/t Calciomercato) claims that AS Roma have agreed on terms with Toby Alderweireld.

The 30-year-old is out of a contract at the end of the season and has not agreed on a new deal with Tottenham.

The Belgian is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and the report claims that Alderweireld will earn €3.5m for the next three seasons.

The problem lies in finalising a transfer fee for the Belgian centre-back. Tottenham want €28m for the defender while Roma are willing to offer €20m for the 30-year-old (h/t Calciomercato).

Tottenham need to keep Alderweireld

This is another surprise regarding Alderweireld’s future at the club. The Belgian seemed certain to stay and was even named as the captain during a pre-season game.

Spurs lifted the Audi Cup recently and Alderweireld tweeted that he wants the season to continue like this.

Tottenham have to keep hold of the Belgian and losing him this close to the season would be a blow to the team.

Finding a quality replacement on the cheap would not be easy either, and we only have a week left to complete all transfers ahead of the Premier League starting.

Spurs are also a little light on centre-backs after Juan Foyth picked up an injury during the Audi Cup.
