Spurs transfer news: Tottenham willing to pay €35m for Ginter

Bild (h/t Football.london) reports that Tottenham are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter.

The 25-year-old played 27 times in the Bundesliga last season and even scored a couple of goals for the club.

Ginter can play as a centre-back and a right-back, and the report claims that Spurs face competition from Atletico Madrid for the German star.

Atletico have been extremely busy in the summer having sign Joao Felix but sold star attacker Antoine Griezmann.

Spurs also sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico, and the pair are ready to pay €35m for the services of Ginter (h/t Football.london).

However, Monchengladbach don’t want to lose Ginter for less than €60m and the report claims that Spurs and Atletico are not keen on bidding that high for the 25-year-old.

Ginter has been one of the more consistent performers for Monchengladbach since his move from Borussia Dortmund, and he is a regular for the German national team.

Tottenham could use another versatile defender

Spurs have Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen as the first-choice defenders in the heart of the defence with Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth providing cover.

Alderweireld and Vertonghen are also out of contracts at the end of the next season, and we need to start planning should they leave Spurs.

However, we could add more quality to the back four due especially with the number of injuries our players suffered in the previous campaign.

Serge Aurier underwent hand surgery recently while Juan Foyth picked up an injury in the Audi Cup too.

Ginter’s ability to play as a right-back could be used by Mauricio Pochettino and the German has the potential to improve further under our manager.
