Latest Spurs news: Pochettino confirms Alli and Foyth will miss season opener

Tottenham have been dealt a double injury blow before the start of the season.

Spurs were in action on Sunday as they lost to Inter Milan in a pre-season friendly, but they were without the services of Dele Alli.

The club confirmed that the Englishman would miss out due to a hamstring problem, and Mauricio Pochettino claimed the player won’t feature against Aston Villa (h/t Metro):

“I don’t know if the club communicate the time but I don’t believe he’s going to be ready for the start of the season.”

The Argentine added that the injury is similar to the one he had to deal with in previous seasons, and expected him to be out for a few weeks:

“It’s the same area [hamstring]. Yes, of course we are worried. He’s still so young. Just 23-years-old and many, many hamstring problems in the last few years.

“[We] Think minor injury. Only a few weeks before he can be available again and be with the group.”

Foyth is out for a while too

Alli wasn’t the only first-team star missing from the Inter clash. Juan Foyth had injured his ankle in the Audi Cup and could be out for longer.

Pochettino claimed that the medical staff would provide an update soon, but could not say a lot more regarding how many weeks the defender would miss:

“I cannot say more because I don’t know exactly how much time. For sure it’s a tough injury and for sure it is many weeks he is going to be out. We hope he can recover as soon as possible.”

Foyth was already suspended for two Premier League games which carried on from last season, but Alli’s injury is a huge concern ahead of the campaign.
