Spurs transfer news: Levy has offered Sporting €45m for Fernandes

Tottenham have bid €45m for Bruno Fernandes, according to Duncan Castles (h/t Daily Star).

The Portugal international has less than a week to seal a move to a Premier League club and Tottenham are in a great position to land the 24-year-old, according to the Daily Star.

The journalist was speaking on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast and claimed Sporting have to pay compensation to Fernandes should they not accept an offer of €35m (h/t Daily Star):

“What I understand is that they have made an offer of €45m [£41m] for the player, which is very Daniel-Levy like, because as we’ve told you on the podcast some time ago Fernandes has a side clause in his deal that he signed last summer which allows him, if Sporting do not accept an offer of €35m [£32m] or more, to receive €5m [£4.5m] from Sporting in compensation.”

Castles added that Spurs have travelled to Lisbon to speak with the club and want to sign the Portugal international.

Fernandes can play in several positions and could even provide cover for Harry Kane.

The journalist claimed that Sporting are under pressure and Tottenham feel that they are in a strong position as they know the Portuguese side want to sell the 24-year-old.

Levy doing his bit in the transfer window

Levy is known to be a tough negotiator and it will be interesting to see how much we pay for Fernandes.

The 24-year-old was in great form for Sporting last season, and we could do with another goal-scoring midfielder in the team.

Tottenham have already spent big once in the summer, landing Tanguy Ndombele, and signing Fernandes would be a huge statement of intent ahead of the season.
