Latest Spurs news: Foyth out till September with ligament damage

Tottenham have confirmed that Juan Foyth will be out of action until September.

The Argentine picked up an injury in our Audi Cup clash against Bayern Munich and had to leave on a stretcher.

The club’s release adds that the 21-year-old has suffered a lateral ligament injury to his left ankle.

Foyth will miss the opening two games of the Premier League campaign due to a suspension while he should be back in training in September after rehabilitation (h/t Tottenhamhotspur.com).

A blow to Tottenham ahead of the campaign

Foyth’s injury will not come as great news for Mauricio Pochettino as we are already thin at right-back.

Serge Aurier underwent hand surgery and we have already sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid. Foyth has played in that position before and the only other recognised right-back we have is Kyle Walker-Peters.

Tottenham will also have trouble should another centre-back pick up a problem in the coming weeks.

Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are two of the best in the league while Davinson Sanchez has impressed since signing from Ajax.

Foyth was the cover for the trio, and it will be interesting to see if Pochettino plans to sign another player before the transfer window ends.

Spurs have made just two additions to the squad so far in the summer and the window closes on Thursday.
