Spurs transfer news: Levy backed out of Coutinho deal during transfer window
Tottenham made some quality signings in the summer but were unable to land Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.
The Brazilian had a torrid time last season, and his move away from Liverpool has not worked out.
The Express reports that Tottenham
Duncan Castles was speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express) and claimed that Barcelona had agreed on a deal regarding the loan fee and the midfielder’s wages:
“Barca were desperate to shift the player off their wage bill because of salary cap issues due to wanting to sign Neymar.
“A deal was agreed by Barcelona for the loan fee and the wages of Coutinho.”
However, Daniel Levy came into the picture and wanted a cheaper deal (h/t Express):
“But Daniel Levy came back and said he wanted to negotiate that at a lower cost so Barca stepped back from the deal.”
Coutinho was one of the best in the Premier League before his transfer to the Catalan giants, but he has time until the end of August to seal a move away.
Tottenham have been great in the transfer window
Not signing another attacking player was a bit of a miss for Spurs this summer, however, we have done well to keep our best players and have strengthened the side.
Giovani Lo Celso should provide us with more firepower from the midfield and could be a less risky signing than Coutinho.

The Argentine was great for Real Betis last season and should carry that form into this campaign for Tottenham.
