Latest Spurs news: Sessegnon won’t feature for new club till September

Tottenham started their Premier League campaign with a convincing 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

John McGinn gave Villa a shock lead in the ninth minute despite Tottenham dominating the possession.

Spurs created many chances and the floodgates opened in the 73rd minute when Tanguy Ndombele scored a rocket on his debut.

Harry Kane then scored a brace to ensure we started the campaign with a win, but there were several Tottenham stars missing from the first-team.

Son Heung-min was suspended while Juan Foyth too was not available due to a suspension and injury.

Jan Vertonghen did not feature for us and he was pictured with Dele Alli and a certain new boy in the stands. Ryan Sessegnon could not make it to the bench after his deadline day transfer to Tottenham.

Mauricio Pochettino claimed that the former Fulham star could need a month to get up to speed while speaking to Football.london (h/t Sun):

“He doesn’t have that much experience in the Premier League, but maybe he is a little bit behind Lo Celso and Ndombele in age, they have more experience playing in a top level.

“Maybe he needs three or four weeks out of the group, and we will see how he adapts.”

Spurs doing the right thing easing players into the team

Giving Sessegnon the time to recover from a hamstring problem and learn about the squad is the ideal way of ensuring he does well when he plays.

Ryan Sessegnon

There is no point in rushing the 19-year-old into the squad at the moment. Spurs were excellent against Villa but tougher tests lie ahead in the coming weeks.

We travel to the Etihad next week, with games against Newcastle United, Arsenal and Crystal Palace in the queue.

It seems likely that Sessegnon will miss these games but we should have some of our other stars back for these games.
