Spurs transfer news: Tottenham confident Alderweireld will sign new deal
The Sun reports that Tottenham are “growing confident” that Toby Alderweireld will extend his stay at the club by signing a new contract.
The Belgian is out of a deal at the end of the season and could leave on a free transfer next summer. Alderweireld is also free to negotiate with foreign clubs from January.
The report adds that Alderweireld could have left in the summer for £25million due to a clause in his current contract.
There were several interested parties in Alderweireld, with AS Roma, Manchester United and Manchester City all linked (h/t Sun).
Alderweireld doing his bit on the pitch
The Belgian hasn’t allowed the speculation about his future interfere with his game on the field.
The 30-year-old has looked great in our opening few games, and could still improve in the coming months.
Keeping hold of Alderweireld would be a big win for Spurs as he is one of the best in the Premier League.
Losing him for free would be a blow and seeing him play for a rival Premier League club would have been painful to see.
Hopefully, the management and player can finalise a deal soon. The Belgian isn’t the only player out of a contract at the end of this season.
