Latest Spurs news: Moura was upset at Champions League snub but respects Pochettino
One of the biggest decisions taken last season, from a Tottenham point of view, was placing Lucas Moura on the bench in the Champions League final.
The Brazilian had led us to Madrid with a hat-trick against Ajax in the second leg of the semi-final. Moura scored his third in the 96th minute as the Dutch players fell on the floor while our team celebrated wildly on an unforgettable night.
The final in Madrid didn’t go as planned, with Liverpool running out winners, but Moura wasn’t upset at not making the starting XI.
The Brazilian was speaking to the Guardian and added that Mauricio Pochettino didn’t explain the decision to drop him, and the forward respects the Spurs manager:
“He didn’t speak with me, he didn’t explain anything but it’s normal.
“He chose and I need to respect. I needed to be ready to come on and play. To be honest, in the hotel when he gave the starting XI, I was a little bit sad.
“Of course, I would like to play but the most important thing was to win the game. The coach needs to choose 11 players, he can only choose 11 players and we need to respect. I don’t have a problem with this.”
The former PSG star added that this is the reality of football and all players need to be professional and keep working hard.
Moura’s season to shine?
The Brazilian has been inconsistent since his arrival from France and this could be the season for him to perform at a higher level.
The forward came off the bench to score the equaliser against Manchester City last week, and we should see him start more games as a forward.

Pochettino is playing with two forwards this season and it will be interesting to see how Moura does as Son Heung-min is back from his suspension.
