Latest Spurs news: Fans upset at VAR over penalty decisions against Newcastle
Tottenham were surprisingly defeated by Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Joelinton got the only goal of the game with a well-taken finish, but Spurs were below par in the loss at home.
Mauricio Pochettino gave Son Heung-min a start after the South Korean’s suspension ended, and he had one of our best chances in the game.
Lucas Moura also had a quality chance to get us a point, but we just could not get past the Newcastle defence. Tottenham dominated possession but did not have the clinical edge in front of goal, but we could have had two penalties.
VAR drama for Spurs
Harry Kane and Son were on the receiving end of a couple of questionable challenges in the penalty box, but the referee refused to give us a penalty.
VAR saved us against Manchester City in the previous game, but the technology did not overturn the referee’s decision.
The Kane incident looked like a stonewall penalty, and it was surprising that we did not get a spot-kick. Tottenham huffed and puffed but could not stop Newcastle from handing us our first loss of the season.
Our next game is against Arsenal and that could see a lot of drama and controversy too.
Many Tottenham fans and journalists were left bemused with how VAR works and here are some of the reactions from Twitter.
