Latest Spurs news: Several Tottenham fans call for Vertonghen to start against Arsenal
Tottenham were preparing hard for their upcoming clash against Arsenal at the weekend.
Spurs need to bounce
Tottenham haven’t been able to play all their summer signings, with Ryan Sessegnon recovering from an injury. Tanguy Ndombele was also missing in the loss against Newcastle, but there have been a couple of tough decisions taken by Mauricio Pochettino.
Jan Vertonghen hasn’t featured in any of our starting line-ups this season, but the Belgian was pictured in training ahead of the Arsenal clash.
Problems on the left side of the defence
Newcastle exploited Davinson Sanchez and Danny Rose in the previous game, and a similar tactic could be taken by Arsenal. The Colombian lost Joelinton as he scored at the weekend, and it could be time to play Vertonghen given his experience alongside Toby Alderweireld.
The 32-year-old isn’t quicker than Sanchez but he has put up several quality performances for us over the years. It is a bit of a surprise seeing Vertonghen not start for us, especially since we have looked a little porous at the back.
The pairing of Alderweireld and Vertonghen has the experience to deal with Arsenal’s attackers, and many Tottenham fans wanted the older Belgian reinstated into the starting line-up ahead of the derby.
