Spurs transfer news: Leverkusen interested in signing Vertonghen
Kicker (h/t Mirror) claims that Bayer Leverkusen are interested in signing Jan Vertonghen.
The Belgian defender is out of a contract at the end of the season, and the Mirror adds that it is unlikely he will receive a new deal at Tottenham.
The 32-year-old joined from Ajax and has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League.
However, Vertonghen is yet to play a minute of football for us this season, and the report claims that not all is well between him and Mauricio Pochettino.
Leverkusen have started the season well with six points from two games and can offer Champions League football too.
The 32-year-old is versatile enough to play as a left-back and it would be a major surprise if he is sold before the end of the summer window.
Spurs need to keep hold of their experienced players
Tottenham cannot replace any players they may lose now and have already sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid.
The Englishman was one of our most experienced defenders and Vertonghen is another player who has a ton of games under his belt.
The 32-year-old should be pairing Toby Alderweireld in the heart of the defence. However, Davinson Sanchez has been preferred alongside the other Belgian this season.

Juan Foyth is currently out with an injury and Spurs cannot play the entire season with just three senior centre-backs.
