Latest Spurs news: Pochettino confirms Ndombele will miss derby against Arsenal

Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Tanguy Ndombele will not feature against Arsenal at the weekend.

The clubrecord signing picked up a slight knock prior to the Newcastle game and didn’t play in the 1-0 loss to the Magpies.

Tanguy Ndombele scores

Ndombele made a great impression in the opening two games of the season, but Pochettino confirmed in a press conference that the Frenchman will only return after the international break (h/t Football.london):

“Tanguy suffered a small injury and I think will be available after the international break.”

The Frenchman was excellent for Lyon before he joined Tottenham and even scored on his debut against Villa a couple of weeks ago.

The combative midfielder’s absence will be a blow to our plans of winning at the Emirates, and it will be interesting to see what kind of line-up Pochettino goes with on Sunday.

Other summer signings still need time

The Argentine also spoke about two other signings, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon.

Lo Celso has picked up some minutes by coming off the bench while Sessegnon is recuperating from a minor injury.

Pochettino claimed Lo Celso needed more time after a gruelling Copa America in the summer and provided an update on Sessegnon too (h/t Football.london):

“He’s working hard to try to get to the level of the rest of the team. I don’t believe he has the chance to be involved from the beginning but we are happy with him. For sure he needs time, like Ryan Sessegnon who is still not working with the team.”
