Mick McCarthy wants Troy Parrot to play in Tottenham’s first-team before Ireland call-up
Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott has been in excellent form for the Ireland U21s in recent weeks.
The 17-year-old scored a brace in a win over the Sweden U21 team during the international break and found the back of the net in his debut game against Armenia too.
Mick McCarthy has seen the senior Ireland side pick up a 3-1 in over Bulgaria in a friendly and was asked what Parrott needs to do to break into the senior team.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager pulled no punches and wanted Parrott to play for Tottenham’s senior team (h/t Independent):
“Get in the first team.
“You do realise that the U21s and the U23s where he’s playing is far-removed from where we are playing, don’t you? There’s a huge difference.
“If I think he’s right, I’ll take him. We’ll try and get him watched. It’s interesting – if he hadn’t come on and scored his goals, I wonder what would the questions be had he not come on, because Stephen’s not played him?”
Parrott to get his chance soon?
The 17-year-old does have a lot of raw talent and it will be interesting to see when he features under Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham
The Carabao Cup games should see Parrott at least come off the bench, and he should feature against Colchester.
The 17-year-old has time on his hands and needs to continue his development under Pochettino.

Tottenham have provided chances to several young players under Pochettino, and it seems we have a star on our hands regarding Parrott.
