Tottenham wanted to sign Elseid Hysaj in the summer
Much has been made about Tottenham’s summer business, with four players coming in and several stars leaving.
Tottenham didn’t replace Fernando Llorente or Vincent Janssen, and were left with no senior cover for Harry Kane.
Another big talking point was selling Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid but not signing a senior right-back. Kyle Walker-Peters was given the nod at the start of the season, with Davinson Sanchez and Serge Aurier playing in recent games, however, Tottenham
The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke took part in a Q+A session, with one supporter asking him why we did not scout a defender or a back-up forward.
Pitt-Brooke claimed that Elseid Hysaj from Napoli was a target, while he also said that Troy Parrott could do the job replacing Harry Kane in the XI (h/t Athletic):
“They were looking at another right back at the end of the window – they wanted Hysaj from Napoli.”
The journalist claimed that the back-up forward was “less important with Parrott coming through too.”
Parrott was handed a start in our loss to Colchester United recently, and could get more games as we would have to rest Kane.
Tottenham could have done with another right-back
Hysaj is one of the top defenders in the Serie A and would have been an excellent addition to Spurs.
The 25-year-old has only played six minutes for Napoli this season and it will be interesting to see if he is on the market in the winter window.

Walker-Peters is a decent defender but given Serge Aurier’s injury history, we needed another senior option for the position.
