Jan Vertonghen shares the mood at Tottenham after 7-2 mauling by Bayern
Jan Vertonghen didn’t have a great outing against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The defender was taken apart by the Bayern attack, but most of our players were ruthlessly put in place by the Bavarians.
Vertonghen was culpable for a few goals and the 7-2 loss was truly difficult to take. The mood in the Tottenham camp was sombre after the game, and the Belgian opened up about how the players felt (h/t Mirror):
“Bad, heads down. Everyone’s ashamed of this result. I think everyone will have a bad night’s sleep, and probably a couple, about this.
“I feel extremely hurt – all negative words. It’s embarrassing. It’s a very bad result.”
The defender added that Bayern were clinical in front of goal and punished every mistake the Tottenham players made.
Vertonghen further went on to say that the players had let “everyone at the club down” with the result too.
Fortunately for Tottenham, their next game is against Brighton and the defender was hopeful about bouncing back from the defeat.
Tottenham under severe pressure
This season has been far from ideal for Spurs, and they need to get things back on track.
Brighton might seem like an easy game on paper, but we haven’t made things easy for ourselves. The loss to Newcastle is one result which we should have avoided, and the exit from the Carabao Cup is another game to forget.

The players have to pull up their socks for the upcoming clashes and hopefully, we relieve some of the pressure on the team by picking up a win.
