Duncan Castles claims Tottenham will find it hard to sign James Maddison
James Maddison is one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League.
The Leicester City star has two goals and two assists from seven Premier League games this season and only joined the Foxes from Norwich City last season.
The jump to the Premier League hasn’t fazed the Englishman, and journalist Duncan Castles believes Tottenham will find it difficult to land Maddison.
Castles was speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast and added that the Englishman was the kind of player who Spurs chairman Daniel Levy liked (h/t Daily Star):
“You have to say that Maddison at 22, is very much in that category of player Levy likes to acquire.
“The question you would have is the kind of money it would take to do it, particularly with Man Utd retaining
an interest and he being very much the profile of player Ed Woodward is championing at the moment.“I can see the interest, I’m not sure Tottenham can make this a reality with competition from Man Utd.”
However, the journalist did claim that Tottenham would have to do a stellar job of selling the project under Mauricio Pochettino and prove to Maddison he would be around better players in London.
Do Spurs need another attacking midfielder?
Tottenham already landed Giovani Lo Celso in the summer but the Argentine has had a tough time due to injuries.
The 23-year-old should be back in action soon, after suffering a hip problem in the previous international break, and we also have Christian Eriksen on our books.
The Dane is out of a contract at the end of the season but we have several options for that position. Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela can all play in that position but Maddison seems to be in the form of his life.
