Mauricio Pochettino claims dinner invitation proves players’ trust in him

Mauricio Pochettino believes a dinner invitation from the players is a sign that they are still backing him. Tottenham have been poor this season and suffered a humiliating 7-2 loss to Bayern Munich before the international break.

Reports (h/t Sky Sports) have suggested that there is some unrest behind the scenes and players are unhappy with the Argentine’s dealings.

However, Pochettino highlighted the dinner invitation for him and his coaching staff as a sign that the players are still committed to the cause (h/t Sky Sports):

“When last week, you receive a text from the player inviting you and the coaching staff for a dinner only two things can happen.

“Because they want to say goodbye. Or because they feel that they love you and they want to show that they are with you.

“And I think it’s the second. They are not about to say goodbye to me. To say goodbye to me, say goodbye here. Not inviting me to dinner.”

Players have to do their bit for the team

Pochettino cannot shoulder all the blame for the poor form this season as several of our stars have been below par.

Christian Eriksen, Serge Aurier Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli haven’t looked all that great while we have had injury problems too.

The players need to improve their performance in the coming weeks as we face some tough teams. Our first clash after the break is against Watford. Anything less than three points will pose more questions to the team, and it will be interesting to see what line-up Pochettino puts out.
