Jan Vertonghen injured in the 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday
Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Jan Vertonghen had picked up an injury in the 5-0 win over Red Star. Tottenham
We face tougher opposition at the weekend with a trip to Anfield awaiting us. Liverpool were also in action in midweek and scored four past Genk.
Jan Vertonghen was one of our stars in the Champions League win but was replaced by Pochettino. The Argentine told Football.london (h/t Sun) that the Belgian had suffered a knock in the win, but it wasn’t a major problem:
“It’s only that for different reasons we finished today in this way.
“Jan felt a little problem, not really a problem, but we didn’t want to risk him to continue playing.”
Spurs need Vertonghen as his best
Facing Liverpool without our strongest team would be a tough task given the quality they possess. Spurs need to be at their best and losing Vertonghen ahead of the Liverpool game would be a problem. Hopefully, the Belgian is fit for the game and puts up a fantastic performance at Anfield.
Liverpool have dropped just two points this season but that happened in their previous game against Manchester United. We have the quality to trouble their defence and our attack looked great against Red Star.

Son Heung-min and Harry Kane could be the key to scoring at Anfield, however, Vertonghen and the defence have to do their bit too.
